Type of Wood Tables in Singapore to Consider

South America Suar Wood Table

Known for : Robustness, Strength, Unique patterns and colouring,

Suar Wood is one of the more underrated woods for furniture, especially tables. The wood comes from the ‘Rain Tree’ which is a large tree that is known for its robustness and strength and also for its unique colouring. It comes in a yellow-sap colour interspersed with a dark chocolate colour that gives it a unique look.

It’s cross grained, which means the wood is stronger and can handle a lot more pressure than other types of wood. Maintaining a Suar Wood table is pretty easy, it just requires soap and water to clean it.

So why should you pick the Suar wood for your table?

It’s the patterns and the look of it. A Suar Wood table doesn’t look like anything you’ve seen before because every wooden slab that’s used to make a table is unique. You want a unique, strong, beautiful table that will stand the test of times?

Then pick a Suar Wood.

Black Walnut Table

Known for : Beautiful flowery patterns, Value of the wood, Striped texture

You might have heard of the North American Black Walnut wood. Even if you haven’t heard of it, it’s very easy to spot furniture made from this type of wood. It has a distinct dark brown colour that stands out in any room.

It’s a very popular type of wood because it’s one of the most durable hardwoods in the US. It holds together really well even after being kiln dried and seasoned.

If you walk around a few national parks around the U.S., you will see the North American Black Walnut trees that have been around for a very long time. These trees have stood the test of times and are really strong.

They are perfect for furniture making because it’s easy to work on. They also have a fine texture and interesting flowery pattern.

They are not as dense as oak, which makes it a bit lighter and perfect for furniture as furniture needs to be moved around sometimes.

However, the North American Black Walnut is unsustainable due to its rarity and high price, if you are conscious about sustainability, you might want to consider Suar Wood instead.

Lychee Wood Table

Known for : Durability, Outdoor Table Option

Most people aren’t aware of this, the tree that produces the Lychee fruit can also be used as table wood. It is not a big tree by any means, but is quite resilient. To make a table from Lychee wood, it’s recommended to get a single slab of wood. As the tree is quite small, to get a single slab of wood, a much older tree needs to be found. This is what makes the Lychee wood quite rare and one of the most coveted.

It’s durability can be attested to the fact that it’s used as an outdoor table option. This means come rain or sun, this wood will not break and hold itself together.

Tamarind Wood Table

Known for : Beautiful colouring and anti-decaying properties

The Tamarind tree is one of the most valuable trees around because of its myriad uses. The fruit borne by this tree is used in cuisines all across the world and the leaves are used in the culinary arts as well.

But that’s common knowledge. What is uncommon is, the wood of this tree is used for furniture making and it has some incredible properties.

The Tamarind wood is popular because of its resistance to insects and it’s anti-decaying properties. It’s a heartwood and it has a beautiful reddish brown colour and sometimes a purple hue as well.

It’s perfect for making specialty furniture items.

There are many types of Rosewood that come from different parts of the world. There’s Brazilian rosewood, Chinese rosewood, Indian rosewood and so on. The Indian Rosewood is also alternatively called the Sonokeling Rosewood or Sono for short.

Rosewoods have a naturally fragrant scent and are excellent to polish. So if you want that nice, smooth finish on your table then a Rosewood should be your pick!

Maple Table

USA White Oak Table

Known for : Naturally water-proofed

White Oak is a known hardwood and arguably one of the most popular woods for tables. It is slightly expensive and it’s commonly used for flooring and furniture making. It has straight grains and it is a very strong wood.

It’s naturally water-proofed because of the clogged pores. White Oak is very popular because it’s availability isn’t a major concern and it’s a dependable wood.
